Spring Cleaning

Spring is a beautiful time of year with flowers in bloom, perfect temperatures, and lots of sunshine, but what about the dreaded task of spring cleaning? We all dislike doing it, but it helps clear out clutter, prepare for the upcoming season, find something we forgot we had, and feel productive because our lives are clean and organized! Below are some tips and tricks for better spring cleaning!

  1. Clean your microwave with nothing but water and lemon. Fill a coffee mug with water and add a tablespoon of lemon juice. Nuke the mixture on high for 1 minute. Wipe down the inside of the microwave with a clean washcloth.  The combination of steam and citrus loosen all of the old food, and make it a breeze to wipe out! Plus, you will have a microwave that smells fresh and clean without the chemicals!

  1. Dust your baseboards quickly and easily. I don’t know about you, but I hate getting on my hands and knees to clean the baseboards. I avoid doing that by literally sweeping the baseboards off when I am sweeping the floor. Quick and easy!

  1. Figure out what you don’t wear. Go into your closet and turn all of your hangers to face the same way. Each time you wash something you have worn and hang it back up turn the hanger the opposite direction. At the end of the year anything that is still facing the original direction should be donated or put in long term storage since you haven’t used it.

  1. Declutter! Decluttering is the main reason that people go through the hassle of spring cleaning, but the whole process can be time consuming and overwhelming. Start by choosing a room to focus on. Go into that room and start going through your items. Make 4 piles. The first pile should be things you are keeping. The second pile should be things that will be donated. The third pile should be garbage. The final pile should be items that you want to put in storage because you don’t want to let them go.

  1. Take it one room at a time. If you look at spring cleaning your home as a whole it can be overwhelming and you may not finish the project you started. However, if you take it room by room it will feel more manageable and you won’t  rush through it!

Use these tips this spring to get your house in order without feeling overwhelmed and overworked. Take it step by step and don’t forget to have fun with it!
